Genre analysis (of the band I'm using)

This video, is another video by the band, which reinforces all my previous statements about the genre. This is a self-sanctioned and financed music video by themselves; so they have exotic and bizarre lighting and their use of mise en scene is far more focused on the song: Monster Mashed is all about energy drinks, so hyperactivity and cans everywhere is a must - it creates a narrative in a way.
But the shot variety shows that these music videos are shot in the same way - the same shot types and shot angles appear throughout the genre.

  1. Felix there are some great posts here and they have a real sense of informing your own shoot and creative decisions.

What I'd like you to do is an extended piece to complete this phase of your research. Look at punk origins and the way various streams were assimilated into mainstream. Look at the way punk musicians represented - look at conventions and the way elements of 'anarchy' but also the way certain stereotypes have evolved ... it would be useful to explore genre conventions further as you complete the analysis due next Friday focusing on concepts of representation and stereotype - also representation of gender.
